WHAT IS
PEDAL ASSIST?

Having a little help is always great, even if you are a bike purist. SWFT e-bikes offer 3 levels of pedal assist, and in this article, we define pedal assist, how to choose the correct level, and how our riders have taken advantage of a little bit of assistance.

WHAT IS PEDAL ASSIST?

WHAT IS PEDAL ASSIST?

Pedal assist is a feature offered on e-bikes powered by a battery. SWFT e-bikes have 3 levels of pedal-assist to help riders get a bit further.

With pedal assist, the electric motor on the e-bike helps riders move the bicycle up to a certain speed, determined by the level of pedal assistance chosen.

When you select a pedal assist level, the motor will provide a bit of a push as you work to pedal your e-bike. It may feel like a slight push as your ride.

Pedal assist will still require riders to pedal, but the motor will assist you as you pedal to get your e-bike moving a bit faster to each level’s set speed.

WHAT LEVEL OF PEDAL ASSIST SHOULD I CHOOSE?

WHAT LEVEL OF PEDAL ASSIST SHOULD I CHOOSE?

SWFT e-bikes come equipped with 3 levels of pedal-assist (Levels 1-3). Using pedal assist is sometimes preferred to using only your throttle, because you can both extend your battery range on your ride, and still get a workout in!

Level 1 is the lowest level of assistance, and when activated, will work to get you to to 8mph on flat ground.

Level 2 is mid-level assistance, and when selected, will get your motor up to 12mph on flat ground faster than just pedaling to that speed.

Both level 1 and 2 are great for flat terrains and getting a little bit of help on longer rides or commutes.

Level 3 is the highest level of assistance and will have your motor work faster to get you to 18mph on flat terrain. It is also a great way to get you up smaller hills.

WHY USE PEDAL ASSIST?

WHY USE PEDAL ASSIST?

Pedal assist is a completely optional feature for e-bike riders. With SWFT e-bikes, you can choose to ride without pedal assist, or ride by only using your throttle.

We find that pedal assist is great for riders who want to go a little further, don’t want to arrive at their destination drenched in sweat, or for those have recovered from injuries that limit mobility or range.

Using pedal assist allows you to extend the range of your battery per ride, as you’re also helping your e-bike do a bit of the work as you pedal.

We find it’s perfect for commuters, making sure you don’t break a sweat when getting to and from work, but gives our riders the option of staying active and getting a bit of a workout in every day!

Find an e-bike that fits your riding style, and get a little help making the switch to electric!
